From Portugal with love...

K, here it goes :)
One of the finest artists we have and that I really love it's Mr. Paulo Furtado, The Legendary Tiger Man.
The Legendary Tiger Man "one man show" is one of the several characters created in Paulo Furtado's mind (ex-Tédio Boys and leader of Wray Gunn) to fight his natural born hyperactivity. His way through Mississippi, along with the multiple tours of the legendary band from Coimbra (PORTUGAL) throughout the land of Uncle Sam (three Coast to coast tours,in wich they played with bands such as Speedball Baby, Southern Culture on The Skids and Joey Ramone's Birthday Party in 1999), worked as inspiration for this project in which Paulo Furtado, loaded with guitar, kazoo, bass drum and hi-hat, reinvents the "Delta bluesmen" tradition. (more)Pretty cool a portuguese with the Mississippi blues :D
Listen: Naked Blues [more]
Hear the other band of Mr. Furtado Wray Gunn here.
Another excellent portuguese artist is Armando Teixeira.
One of his projects: Bulllet.
You can listen it here.
Mão Morta, best national band:
It was October 1984. Joaquim Pinto was in West Berlin, West Germany, at a Swans gig. Later on, after the concert, Harry Crosby, bass player in the American band, told him "You look like a bass player". In the following month, back in Braga, Portugal, Pinto bought a bass guitar and started, along with Miguel Pedro and Adolfo Luxúria Canibal, the Mão Morta. Braga, a city of archbishops and a sacred ground for the portuguese conservative right-wing became by irony the birthplace of a band whose posture would clash with the moral and political values of a culturally immature society still recovering from the years under Salazar rule. In fact, the city of Braga became, in the early 80s, the stage for a particularly intense cultural upsurge, from which Mão Morta turned out to be the most notorious and lasting experience. (...)Listen: Cão da Morte
Adolfo Luxúria Canibal's performance and charisma soon made the way for the breeding of a particular cult around the band: "A deep throat that releases bile in heaves, that spanks the spectators with words, that excites and annoys them, that tells stories of sex, crime and repression" (António Pires, Blitz). And the cult went growing on. (more)
These two are recent bands: dAnCE DAMage and X-Wife.
Listen: Vampire Is a Slut, dAnCE DAMage
